2017 I decided to start a personal project on my father and his life after facing deportation twice

~

My intention is to document our experience of coming together again from years being separated by an institutional system. I’m interested in understanding who we are individually, from our personal evolution apart to coming together to understand who’ve become and how a love survived beyond political borders. A queer daughter to a pastor father… A project focused on themes around autonomy, identity and the regulation of border control and how it infringes on mobility and personal freedom..

A letter written in 2010 by my father when he was in prison

TRANSLATION:

Hello my love, I want you to know that as my daughter you are very special and I thank God for the blessing he has given me to have you in my life for that and much more, I love you. But you should know that their is a wonderful God who loves you more than your dad can, because he is love and wants to save your soul and family.
